Just wondering. When was it ever confirmed that Rumpelstiltskin is a dwarf? I mean yes he's a "dwarf" in the sense that he's short, but this is the magical species we're talking about. To me it just sounds like speculation based on his size.

Of course if it's been said somewhere that he is a member of the Dwarf race, then sorry.

We don't really have confirmation that he really is a dwarf. He does have the same height, but unlike dwarfs in Shrek, he has no exaggerated physical features-- other than a demented looking grin and larger eyes. My best answer is that he's either a supernatural humanoid-type creature (undetermined species), or maybe a normal human with a bad deformity.

I always thought of him as a warlock since he hangs around with witches and dresses similar to one.

The only contradiction I can think of is that he wasn't affected when the Pied Piper demonstrated his flute powers on the witches. Of course in the original tale, he was able to affect human children without effecting the adults, so if he can filter his flute music by age groups, he could do the same for gender.

Of course that's just my opinion. The safest thing to do would be to class his "species" as unknown.
