I really think Shrek 5's villain will subvert expectations again (meaning a character who is usually good in fairy tales is portrayed as evil) I had an idea of it being the princess from the princess and the pea

I think Shreks Father (if he appears) could end up being an antagonist or at least rude and stand offish at first but eventually making amends with Shrek

What I really wonder is what they're going to do about Rumpel (he definitely will be in it because Walt Dohrn is directing) I just hope they don't try and give him a redemption arc, he's the least sympathetic of any of the past villains. I also wish they would show Charming again but that's unlikely

Peter Pan is probably the best option for the whole subversion deal. If they want to go for a plotline about Shrek's kids getting older, Peter Pan is the perfect antagonist for that idea. I don't see how the Princess character from Princess and the Pea would work personally.

I'm also predicting that Rumpel is probably going to get the Magic Mirror treatment in Shrek the Third, in which he doesn't appear at all. Or at the very least, will probably just be a cameo. Again, Lord Farquaad is most likely going to return given his popularity. And remember, he was established to have become a ghost in Shrek 4-D and the comics.

I also think it's important to realize that according to producer Chris Meledandri, the Super Mario Bros. Movie (a film he also produced) is going to be the main inspiration for how Shrek 5 is going to be handled. That means really celebrating everything the fans loved about the franchise and honoring those elements with a new collective story. That means carefully selecting themes important to the overall lore, picking the right characters (both popular and obscure), and just crafting a story that everyone would want to see. Very much in the vein of Super Mario Bros. Hell, we saw his magic with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, so we're definitely going to see that carry over to Shrek 5.

I also want to add some of my own predictions here (based on general information from previous works from the cast and crew involved). I intend to make a more elaborate post, but here's the condensed version.

1 - Arthur Pendragon (now King Arthur) will return. I think this is likely because his actor, Justin Timberlake, is one of the stars of the Trolls franchise. All three were also directed by Walt Dohrn, who's directing Shrek 5, making another collaboration between the two a no brainer.

2 - While I keep saying that no Disney specific characters will appear, that doesn't mean that there won't be new Disney slams in Shrek 5. I expect an intense thrashing, ESPECIALLY if they bring back Lord Farquaad lol.

3 - If the Ogre Triplets are going to be depicted older, they are going to get new, younger actors in the roles. I don't have ideas for who could voice Farkle and Fergus, but Felicia is easier to predict. My candidates are Sabrina Carpenter (who is mega popular at the moment) and Emma Myers (best known for her role as Enid Sinclair in Tim Burton's Wednesday).

4 - We're going to see the return of some obscure characters from the franchise, similar to the Super Mario Bros. Movie. For Shrek 5, the best contenders are Monsieur Hood, Thelonious, the Headless Horseman, and at least one of the ogres from Shrek Forever After.

5 - It will look like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Wild Robot. Look, it's an art style that isn't for everyone, but you can't deny that both of those movies earned DreamWorks a TON of newfound acclaim, largely for their new art direction for those films. Plus, it's cost effective and generally easy to pull off.

Yeah, the triplets will definitely be older in this one and I had an idea of the trio from Harry Potter voicing them, might be an odd idea but I think it would be a fun nod

I agree that Arthur will likely return and I hope he does since he's the king now, I also think he'll have a different look. It would be cool if they bring back Merlin also although not sure how since he lived on an island away from land. Would be cool if somehow they could work Morgan Le Fey into this, I was surprised she wasn't in Shrek 3

I think it would be amazing if in Shrek 5 they could somehow work Mythological characters into it or characters from Shakespeare. Some ideas would be characters such as Hades or even Beowulf . It has me curious what Greek Gods would look like in the Shrek universe

That's a cute idea for an homage, but I highly doubt the Harry Potter trio will voice the ogres.

Merlin can teleport as seen in Shrek the Third during the ending, so he could return. Although his actor, Eric Idle, tried to sue DreamWorks once over a supposed "unauthorized" use of the coconut gag from Monty Python and the Holy Grail in the third film. Because of that experience, it's probably not the best idea to bring Merlin back.

I will say that Morgan Le Fay would also be a good choice for a potential new antagonist if they want to go back to the Arthurian legends for Shrek 5. Plus, she would be a great female villain, as well as fill the need for another magic wielder in the series (we don't have many in this fairy tale universe lol).

I'm predicting we will at least get references to various mythical characters by name, and the Shakespeare characters are a great call since they have yet to appear. I think characters from A Midsummer Night's Dream (mainly Robin "Puck" Goodfellow, who also originates from mythology) would be brilliant additions. On the note of Greek characters, the DVD game, Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales, as TONS of them and a handful have physical appearances via storybook illustrations. So if you want to see glimpses of them just look up characters like Hades, Persephone, and Aphrodite on this wiki!

I think it would be a cool idea if Morgan Le Fay is revealed to be the witch who cursed Fiona. This would also be a good way for them bring Arthur back since Morgan is a huge part of Arthurian legend
