They took the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade floats for a test run! Here’s our first official look at Fergus and Farkle!!
So yes, they’re here. They didn’t die, they didn’t move out. They’re going to appear with Felicia. So there lol
Oh and no it's been rumored that the delay is because of the overcrowded market of films in fall and winter 2026
Shrek 6?

Shrek made them up on the fly when talking to Donkey
Okay Donkey does look a little off. He looks more like a goat lol, but that could be due to him being visibly older.
Another thing to note is that the teaser could also be a proof-of-concept rather than a real trailer. So many animated movies have done that, and often have rough models and off-putting designs. For reference, Pixar's Ratatouille had drastically different character models in that teaser back in 2006, and the final film had tweaked designs.
I'm just saying it's common practice for animated films, and I'm certain that we will see some slight improvements here and there.
I seriously hope you're being funny by thinking the eye color is a legitimate issue
I understand not finding the new art direction appealing, especially because the old designs have been implanted in a lot of people's minds. However, I feel like the backlash is way too extreme, especially since the characters are still recognizable. They simply exaggerated the designs to be more cartoonish while respecting the original style (the characters are still grungy and keep the basic elements of their designs).
Look, it sucks that we didn't get the Last Wish style, but I'm at least happy that DreamWorks is still trying to bring new visual life into this series.
According to some Zendaya fan accounts on Twitter, as well as other media news outlets, renowned actress Zendaya (best known for playing MJ in the MCU Spider-Man saga, and Chani in the Dune movies) is currently in talks to possibly portray the role of Felicia in Shrek 5. While this has not been confirmed, this supports the theory that the filmmakers are looking to give the Ogre Triplets a much larger role in this new story- potentially having them portrayed as older kids.
If she is officially cast, this will be a wonderful addition to her already impressive portfolio of major film franchises.
Okay... You might be onto something with Hercules being a villain here! In fact, any of the Greek characters would be perfect since all of them were not perfect and can be considered antagonistic. I'd hope that they don't just repeat Charming's character with Hercules, but if they have Ryan Reynolds voice him like you suggested (literally just perfect casting right there), they can have a truly unique and memorable antagonist that truly fits Shrek's overall themes. Same for Beowulf, who would actually be even more prefect for Shrek, since he himself is already a fantastical medieval legend.
Romeo & Juliet are also really great choices, and like I said in a pervious post, any Shakespeare character would be a wonderful addition. Also some great casting choices for them!
Firstly, I still stand by claims of The Last Wish, Wild Robot, and now Dog Man's art direction being Shrek 5's approach. It won't look like KFP4, mostly because that would be distracting and ruin continuity. (especially if Perrito comes back, they would have to completely redesign him if what you believe will happen)
I must also note that just because Shrek 5 is being directed by Walt Dohrn, it doesn't mean Rumpel will return in a big role or at all. Chris Miller, who voiced Magic Mirror, didn't put Mirror in Shrek the Third, which he directed. My argument is, they only add characters that they see fit. And personally, Lord Farquaad and Death seem to be the only characters that can justifiably come back in a new narrative. Plus, again, they are VERY marketable.
And yes, I did enjoy Kung Fu Panda 4 thanks for asking lol
That's a cute idea for an homage, but I highly doubt the Harry Potter trio will voice the ogres.
Merlin can teleport as seen in Shrek the Third during the ending, so he could return. Although his actor, Eric Idle, tried to sue DreamWorks once over a supposed "unauthorized" use of the coconut gag from Monty Python and the Holy Grail in the third film. Because of that experience, it's probably not the best idea to bring Merlin back.
I will say that Morgan Le Fay would also be a good choice for a potential new antagonist if they want to go back to the Arthurian legends for Shrek 5. Plus, she would be a great female villain, as well as fill the need for another magic wielder in the series (we don't have many in this fairy tale universe lol).
I'm predicting we will at least get references to various mythical characters by name, and the Shakespeare characters are a great call since they have yet to appear. I think characters from A Midsummer Night's Dream (mainly Robin "Puck" Goodfellow, who also originates from mythology) would be brilliant additions. On the note of Greek characters, the DVD game, Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales, as TONS of them and a handful have physical appearances via storybook illustrations. So if you want to see glimpses of them just look up characters like Hades, Persephone, and Aphrodite on this wiki!
Users have been posting their personal predictions, so why not have the lead admin (me) provide their two cents?? I made a smaller reply containing condensed versions of five of my predictions. This is a more elaborate post, which will feature almost all of the things I want talk about.
1 - It will look like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Wild Robot. Regardless of how you feel personally about the art style, you can't deny that both of those movies earned DreamWorks a TON of newfound acclaim and respect. And, at least after Kung Fu Panda 4, it seems like DreamWorks is going to prioritize the painterly/illustrated look for their films. It would be a huge waste to go back to Shrek's original art direction after The Last Wish completely brought the universe into a new life. If DreamWorks wants Shrek 5 to be a big event film, or at the very least earn critical acclaim, they are going to stick with the new art style.
2 - Arthur Pendragon (now King Arthur) will return in some capacity. I doubt that he'll be a main character like in Shrek the Third however. I believe he'll be back largely due to his actor, Justin Timberlake, being one of the stars of the Trolls franchise. Walt Dorhn, who is directing Shrek 5, directed the entire trilogy, so another collaboration between him and Timberlake would make a lot of sense.
3 - I've replied to other posts wanting to see classic Disney villains as the main antagonist. I stated that this would be impossible because Disney specific characters are heavily secured by copyright (even parody laws keep them locked). This is why characters like the Ethical Bug are referred to by alternate names, and why there are only Disney-inspired visuals as opposed to direct involvements of characters by name (i.e. The Fairies from Sleeping Beauty, Mickey's Sorcerer Hat, etc.). However, this doesn't mean that we'll see the Disney slams the Shrek series is known for. I expect there to be some intense thrashings towards the Mouse, especially with everything surrounding the company and its practices. And if they are going to honor elements of the Shrek franchise, I can almost guarantee that the critiques towards Disney are going to make a fantastic comeback.
4 - There is a lot of talk regarding who the main villain is going to be, and the most favored idea is the return of the Pied Piper. Despite being seen as "good" at the end of Shrek Forever After, he could still be at least a morally ambiguous (or secretly malicious) antagonist. With Shrek's kids most likely going to play a bigger role, the character could fit in with a new storyline where he could possibly kidnap the kids or lure them to the dark side. Peter Pan could also serve this role, and could be an excuse to properly expand the world building similar to what The Last Wish did. I know it's not the most exciting prediction, but it's definitely the most realistic. Now in terms of proper returning villains, that's a different story.
5 - Lord Farquaad is the only villain who has a strong chance of returning. He is easily the most popular and marketable of the Shrek villains, and best of all, he has been established to have returned as a ghost on multiple occasions (in the 4-D film and Dark Horse comics). This may not be considered canon, but in order to meet the demands for more Farquaad (even his actor, John Lithgow, wants to play him again in a new movie), there might not be another option but to make it official. This would also mean that Death from The Last Wish would have to be involved somehow- since there has to be an explanation as to why ghosts can roam around freely with Death also existing, let alone how some dead characters can come back. Fairy Godmother is another potential candidate, but it doesn't seem likely due to how she isn't on as much merchandise or is recognizable as Farquaad. Same goes for Prince Charming and Rumpelstiltskin, both of whom I'm predicting will not appear at all.
6 - Kitty Softpaws and Perrito will appear with Puss in Boots (of course as Team Friendship), and have a major roles. This is another no brainer, as we spent so much time with these characters last time, and it would be perfect to see more of them. Not to mention the interactions will be a great treat for hardcore fans. I believe the reason why Antonio Banderas is not announced as part of the Shrek 5 cast as of now is because they're waiting to confirm the return of Salma Hayek and Harvey Guillen as their respective characters. It will be a big reveal and get fans of The Last Wish interested in Shrek 5.
7 - The Ogre Triplets will most likely depicted as older kids (I think it would be a stretch to see them as adults), maybe young teens. Because they are going to have larger roles, new, young actors will portray them. I don't have ideas for who would play Fergus and Farkle, but Felicia is definitely easy to predict potential voices for. As cynical as it sounds, they are going to find easily recognizable actresses or singers for the role. More specifically, talents who are popular in the 2020's. My candidates are Sabrina Carpenter (who is mega popular at the moment), Emma Myers (best known for her role as Enid Sinclair in Tim Burton's Wednesday), and my personal pick, Sadie Sink (who had an incredible performance in the drama film The Whale). Sink can provide both spunk and genuine character into Felicia, especially when considering her range in Stranger Things and The Whale.
8 - According to producer, Chris Meledandri, the Super Mario Bros. Movie is the biggest source of inspiration for how Shrek 5 will be handled. That was one of his previous works, and was met with incredible results. Obviously, with another huge responsibility with something meant for true fans, he would want to apply a lot of what made Mario work into a new Shrek project. This means celebrating a lot of the themes established by the previous installments while having clever callbacks that aren't too overwhelming for new fans. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish arguably did this approach, bringing back the adult edge of the first Shrek film and pushing the envelope for animated storytelling. Shrek 5 will at least attempt to continue this streak, although we'll have to see for ourselves how this will play out.
9 - A sort of continuation of the last prediction, some deep cuts are going to be implemented in Shrek 5. Obscure characters such as Monsieur Hood, Thelonious, the Headless Horseman, and maybe the ogres from the resistance in Shrek Forever After are likely contenders for cameos. Perhaps the biggest one is a reference to the original Chris Farley Shrek, likely as a tribute to what could've been.
10 - One of the biggest ones here. Shrek's parents will be shown for the first time in the movies. This will either be an antagonist role, or a simple flashback for added exposition. Whatever is the outcome, these characters will appear in some capacity, since they have been the biggest mystery in the Shrek series thus far.
11 - More of a personal wish-list, but since Puss in Boots: The Last Wish featured a ton of unique and familiar fairy tale/mythology references, I'd love to see some more artifacts show up in small doses. My top picks are The Tortoise and the Hare, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Persephone and Hades, The Wizard of Oz, and maybe another non-public domain story (since they got away with a Mary Poppins reference in The Last Wish). Preferably Charlie and the Chocolate Factory lol.
In summary...
We're getting The Last Wish's art direction
Arthur Pendragon will return
Disney slams are back, but no Disney characters
The Pied Piper might be the new villain
Lord Farquaad and Death are the only pre-established villains likely to return
They're waiting to reveal Antonio Banderas since he'll be joined by Salma Hayek and Harvey Guillen
The Ogre Triplets will get new, young actors with Sadie Sink possibly voicing Felicia
Anyone who's seen the Super Mario Bros. Movie knows what to expect for Shrek 5
Obscure characters and deep cuts will be present
Shrek's parents will appear in some capacity
More fairy tale references!!
I also want to add some of my own predictions here (based on general information from previous works from the cast and crew involved). I intend to make a more elaborate post, but here's the condensed version.
1 - Arthur Pendragon (now King Arthur) will return. I think this is likely because his actor, Justin Timberlake, is one of the stars of the Trolls franchise. All three were also directed by Walt Dohrn, who's directing Shrek 5, making another collaboration between the two a no brainer.
2 - While I keep saying that no Disney specific characters will appear, that doesn't mean that there won't be new Disney slams in Shrek 5. I expect an intense thrashing, ESPECIALLY if they bring back Lord Farquaad lol.
3 - If the Ogre Triplets are going to be depicted older, they are going to get new, younger actors in the roles. I don't have ideas for who could voice Farkle and Fergus, but Felicia is easier to predict. My candidates are Sabrina Carpenter (who is mega popular at the moment) and Emma Myers (best known for her role as Enid Sinclair in Tim Burton's Wednesday).
4 - We're going to see the return of some obscure characters from the franchise, similar to the Super Mario Bros. Movie. For Shrek 5, the best contenders are Monsieur Hood, Thelonious, the Headless Horseman, and at least one of the ogres from Shrek Forever After.
5 - It will look like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Wild Robot. Look, it's an art style that isn't for everyone, but you can't deny that both of those movies earned DreamWorks a TON of newfound acclaim, largely for their new art direction for those films. Plus, it's cost effective and generally easy to pull off.
@Lauty Studios Productions Thanks lol
Peter Pan is probably the best option for the whole subversion deal. If they want to go for a plotline about Shrek's kids getting older, Peter Pan is the perfect antagonist for that idea. I don't see how the Princess character from Princess and the Pea would work personally.
I'm also predicting that Rumpel is probably going to get the Magic Mirror treatment in Shrek the Third, in which he doesn't appear at all. Or at the very least, will probably just be a cameo. Again, Lord Farquaad is most likely going to return given his popularity. And remember, he was established to have become a ghost in Shrek 4-D and the comics.
I also think it's important to realize that according to producer Chris Meledandri, the Super Mario Bros. Movie (a film he also produced) is going to be the main inspiration for how Shrek 5 is going to be handled. That means really celebrating everything the fans loved about the franchise and honoring those elements with a new collective story. That means carefully selecting themes important to the overall lore, picking the right characters (both popular and obscure), and just crafting a story that everyone would want to see. Very much in the vein of Super Mario Bros. Hell, we saw his magic with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, so we're definitely going to see that carry over to Shrek 5.
@Thom7 Also Maleficent wasn't in Shrek the Third, that was the Evil Queen from Snow White.
My response to these predicitons.
1 - I don't think Maleficent will be the villain, mostly because I really don't think she would compliment the feel of the Shrek franchise up to this point. She wouldn't really have beef with the Shrek gang unlike the previous villains, and even in the Puss in Boots movies, the villains at least have a history with Puss. Maleficent, realistically speaking, would have no reason to go after the Shrek characters. Plus, like I said in another poster predicting Gaston as a villain, any overtly Disney inspired characters are 100% not going to appear. They couldn't even use Jiminy Cricket's name and called him "Ethical Bug" and they can only visually reference the Mickey Mouse cartoons (I'm referring to the Sorcerer's Hat and Dancing Broom). It's more than likely that Lord Farquaad's Ghost will return as a villain, mostly due to Farquaad's immense popularity as of late. Death is another good candidate due to his popularity similar to Farquaad, although he seems less likely to have a major role. In terms of other fairy tale villains, I can only see Queen of Hearts, the Pied Piper, or an evil Peter Pan being likely, since they properly fit what could be done in a thematically appropriate Shrek legacy sequel.
2 - Since Shrek and Fiona's marriage struggles were already shown in Shrek Forever After, I really don't think a divorce is going to happen. Plus, it would be far too depressing for a supposed return to form so to speak. A separation however, would be a good substitute to help heighten the tension without going overboard.
3 - I'm certain only Kitty Softpaws and Perrito will appear, since they were the only characters to be shown going to Far Far Away with Puss in Boots. All of the other new additions seem pretty solidified in Spain at this point, and they have no reasons to leave for the plot of Shrek 5. Although if Lord Farquaad or any other dead villain return, they have no choice but to bring Death back to make the resurrections seem more natural.
4 - Honestly that would be really funny.
5 (directed at Thom7) - That's actually a good prediction! It would make sense to finally reveal a bit of Shrek's past, even if it would be for a brief flashback or smaller B plot. I feel like this is the most logical direction, since it would be perfect for a storyline involving the ogre triplets as older kids. Shrek's father would definitely come back into his memories if Shrek's kids try to disown him or rebel as most kids do. I don't have any concrete ideas for how this will fully play out, but it's definitely the direction that makes most sense.
The release date is July 1, 2026 lol
Foxy Loxy is also from the original Henny-Penny/Chicken Little story, and sometimes called Foxy Woxy. I don't think the character will appear in Shrek 5, but I really doubt that that specific reason is what would hold back Foxy from appearing. Plus no one really remembers that propaganda cartoon anyway
Nah Firestarthegodcat's onto something here XDXD
