Alternate Dimensions are versions of the original timeline where one key part of the past went down differently. They can be created through Rumpelstiltskin‘s Magical Contracts.

Known alternate dimensions[]

Rumpel's castle

Far Far Away ruled by Rumpelstiltskin

In Shrek Forever After, Shrek was tricked into signing away the day he was born. Thus, he was taken to an alternate reality where he never existed and Rumpelstiltskin rules Far Far Away. The only way to get out of it is through True Love’s Kiss, which he succeeds in completing.

Differences[]

  • The key difference is that Shrek never existed.
  • Fiona was never saved from her tower, because she escaped on her own and became the leader of the Ogre Resistance.
  • Since Donkey never met Shrek, he is constantly being sold to other workers and appears to have been abused.
  • Puss in Boots has been adopted by Fiona as her pet. Thus, he's retired from being a swordsman and became morbidly obese.
  • Gingy is now a gladiator, in which he partakes in gambling.
  • The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf are now slaves in service to Rumpelstiltskin.
  • Pinocchio is living in poverty with his father.
  • Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming are most likely still alive somewhere in this reality.
  • Artie never left Worcestershire and is still the laughingstock of the academy.
  • The Ogre Triplets don't exist, as Shrek never met Fiona in order to conceive them. The Dronkeys don't exist either, because Donkey and Dragon are no longer married.
  • All of the "celebrities" of Far Far Away are entirely absent.
  • The Poison Apple has been abandoned. Although the fates of Captain Hook and the other villains are unknown.
  • The Kingdom of Duloc is more than likely still a functioning dictatorship if Lord Farquaad wasn't killed in this timeline.

Trivia[]

  • Lord Farquaad, Prince Charming, and Artie were originally going to appear in the alternate reality. However, they were scrapped for unknown reasons.
  • Fairy Godmother appears in the alternate reality in the Shrek Forever After video game, having been made Rumpelstiltskin's “Queen For A Week.”. Although this shouldn't be taken as canon, as she never appeared in the film.
  • There was a deleted scene involving Puss describing his history with Fiona and decision to retire for her safety in the alternate reality. If taking into account the events of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, it is possible that Puss never faced Death and saved at least a few of his lives.
