Aphrodite is a character who briefly appeared in the "Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales" DVD game. She originates from Greek mythology and is known as the goddess of love and beauty.

Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales[]

In one of the storybook animations, Aphrodite is among three goddesses who are being judged by Paris of Troy. She sways him with her beautiful lashes, putting him in a trance and receiving the Golden Apple of Eris.

As with the original mythology, she was chosen by Paris after promising him Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world, to be his wife. This began the chain of events that would lead to the Trojan War. Her son, Eros, was also mentioned in the game to have had involvement with the story of Apollo and Daphne.

She also had fallen in love with Adonis, her male equivalent. Not wanting the other goddesses to know of her love, she entrusted Persephone to look after him in the Underworld. In an ironic turn, the goddess fell in love with Adonis, and infuriated Aphrodite when Persephone refused to let him go.

Trivia[]

  • Her Roman equivalent is the goddess Venus, who is best known in the iconic painting, "The Birth of Venus."
    • The painting was humorously depicted with Lord Farquaad's likeness in the first Shrek film.
    • The form of Venus on the clam was seen as a cookie cutter in the Scared Shrekless segment, "The Bride of Gingy."
    • Aphrodite herself is seen as the "Venus de Milo," also as a cookie cutter in "The Bride of Gingy."
