Genie of the Lamp as he appears in "Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales"
The Genie of the Lamp is a character who briefly appeared in the "Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales" DVD game. He is from the Arabian Nights folktale "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp."
Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales[]
In one of the storybook animations, Aladdin is rubbing a dusty lamp. After cleaning it, a Genie emerges, greeting Aladdin with open arms. However, the boy runs away in shock, leaving the Genie confused.
Despite his major appearance in the animation, he is barely mentioned in trivia questions. He is noted to have an important role in providing infinite magic for Aladdin, including the creation of a wonderful palace. However, he would eventually be claimed by the evil magician to get back at Aladdin for "stealing his lamp."
In the "Twisted Twirl" game, one of King Harold's transformations is that of the Genie of the Lamp. He says a selection of one-liners and references to common myths around genies, including the classic statement, "You can't wish for more wishes!" Whichever line he has dictates whether the player will move up, stay where they are, or move back.
Trivia[]
- A possible canonical design of the character is embraided on a magic carpet in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
