Shrek and Fiona in Human Form
Happily Ever After is a construct of the fairy tale world- often referring to an end goal achieved by specific protagonists in a story. These usually relate to romantic connections or revelations, but can also involve rescues and escapes from specific situations. However, most, if not all of these endings feature a wedding, party, or vacation for the leads to rest easy.
Shrek 2[]
The concept of Happily Ever After is the main drive of the kingdom of Far Far Away. It is especially a lucrative business for the Fairy Godmother, who is known across the land for giving happy endings to most individuals. However, she has a belief that ogres don't live happily ever after, which becomes a motivation for Shrek to try and give Fiona the happy ending she supposedly deserves. He drinks the Happily Ever After Potion and becomes human, believing his new form will make Fiona truly happy. While under the false influence of Prince Charming being Shrek's human form, Fiona laments that the ogre was who she fell in love with. Later in the night, she reunites with Shrek after defeating Fairy Godmother and thwarting her plan. They are about to share True Love's Kiss to officially seal the couples' fate- with Fiona wanting to live happily ever after with the ogre she married.
Shrek the Third[]
Prince Charming, along with other villains, grew bitter due to their enemies achieving their "happy endings." In fits of frustration, many of the villains sulk in beer at the Poison Apple, lamenting the lives they could've or once had. As a response to their mistreatment from the various fairytale creatures and heroes, Charming rallies all of the villains to seek vengeance against all of Far Far Away. Successful, the band of foes create a stage play titled It's a Happily Ever After After All, which as the name implies, was meant to satisfy Charming's desire for his happy ending. He is nearly successful, having Shrek voluntarily partake in the play and was supposedly stabbed. However, it was revealed that the ogre only pretended to be wounded, and confronts Charming one more time. He proclaims "this is supposed to be my happily ever after!," to which Shrek tells him to keep looking because he's not giving up his.
