WikiShrek

Mama Bear is the wife of Papa Bear and mother of Baby Bear. She was caged with her family until being separated from them.

Appearances[]

Shrek[]

Mama Bear is among the other fairytale creatures rounded up by the Duloc guards. She is seen in a cage with Papa Bear while Baby Bear is in a separate cage. Later, in Shrek's swamp, she's not seen with her family, but Papa is seen comforting his baby, probably due to her disappearance.

It is presumed that she was killed by Lord Farquaad and that the pelt seen serving as a decoration in his chamber is presumed to be hers.

Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke Dance Party[]

Despite being assumed to be dead, she is dancing with her family and the cast of Shrek during the "Dance to the Music" sequence.

Shrek 2 (video game)[]

Mama Bear is seen with her family on a "porridge break" while Mongo is destroying Far Far Away.

Shrek comics (Joe Books)[]

The Three Bears - Shrek Comics

After a decade of absence, Mama Bear returns in Issue #3 of the Shrek comics by Joe Books. She is one of the many friends who try to help renovate Shrek's home for his family. After hearing her husband's idea of a large house for Shrek, she objects to the proposal- suggesting that the family simply wants something tasteful for the kids. The two quickly get into an argument about the size of the house- with Mama Bear saying "Bigger is always better with you!" while recounting an incident where they allegedly swam in honey for weeks from a giant beehive. They continue arguing while their son Baby Bear presents Shrek with his little house, which he claims is "just right."

Trivia[]

  • She appears alive and well in Shrek's Karaoke Dance Party, and appeared in the Shrek 2 video game with Papa Bear and Baby Bear. However in Shrek 4-D, she isn't present with her family during the end. This retcons a scene in Shrek where her pelt and bow are seen as part of a bearskin rug in Farquaad's castle, implying that she was killed offscreen.
    • Due to the inconsistencies however, it's possible her being turned into a bearskin rug in Farquaad's castle was just meant to be a dark joke and not meant to be taken seriously.
