PDI

Pacific Data Images (also known as PDI) was an American computer animation production company that was bought by DreamWorks Pictures in 2000. It was renamed PDI/DreamWorks and was owned by DreamWorks Animation. Founded in 1980 by Carl Rosendahl, PDI was one of the pioneers of computer animation. It produced over 700 commercials, and contributed visual effects to more than 70 feature films.

In the mid-1990's, PDI would begin animated computer-animated films for DreamWorks Pictures. The first being Antz in 1998, which saw critical and financial success. Two years later, DreamWorks would purchase PDI in 2000, renaming it as PDI/DreamWorks for the release of their next collaboration, Shrek. This would be followed by Shrek 2 in 2004, and Madagascar in 2005. The studios' final releases in the Shrek franchise would be Shrek the Third and Shrek the Halls both in 2007. This was due to the studios' primary focus on the Madagascar franchise, and the release of Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

PDI's final animated film before its closure was Penguins of Madagascar in 2014. The studio was shut down due to management shifts at DreamWorks Animation around this time- as well as the underperformance of Penguins and Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
