Papa Bear (Shrek)

Papa Bear is the father of Baby Bear and husband of Mama Bear.

Movies[]

Shrek[]

Papa Bear, along with his family, are among the various fairy tale creatures banished to Shrek's swamp. While being rounded up by the Duloc Guards, he is in a cage together with Mama Bear while Baby Bear is in a separate cage. Later in the swamp, he is seen alone comforting a crying Baby by a campfire. Mama Bear had been presumably killed and turned into a rag for Farquaad's bedroom. The two are later seen at the end of the film, celebrating the wedding of Shrek and Fiona. Later Papa Bear is seen dancing with Snow White.

Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke Dance Party[]

Papa Bear, along with his family, are seen dancing with the cast of Shrek during the "Dance to the Music" sequence.

Shrek 4-D[]

Papa Bear and Baby Bear make a cameo at the end with the various fairytale creatures during the start of Shrek and Fiona's honeymoon.

Video Games[]

Shrek 2[]

While not appearing the film, he plays a major role in the video game tie-in. He is a firefighter in Far Far Away who tells Shrek and his friends to put out the fires caused by Mongo. Throughout the mission, he is on a "porridge" break with his family.

Beforehand, he is seen sleeping in the waiting room of Fairy Godmother's Cottage.

Papa Bear is Goldilocks' ride in the game.

Comics[]

Shrek (Joe Books)[]

After over a decade of absence, Papa Bear returns in Issue #3 and #4 of the Shrek comics by Joe Books. In Issue #3, he is one of the many friends who try to help renovate Shrek's home for his family. He is trying to persist Shrek to approve his giant house, which is fit for work tools and other big projects and hobbies. Mama Bear objects to the idea, as she feels it's too big for the family. Papa Bear gets into an argument with her about the size of the house, with his wife saying "Bigger is always better with you!" They continue arguing while their son Baby Bear presents Shrek with his little house, which he claims is "just right."

He makes a cameo in Issue #4 as a racer in the Far Far Away Soapbox Derby.

Trivia[]

Papa Bear and Baby Bear are one of the several characters introduced in the first film to never appear in future installments.
- Different versions of the Three Bears would later appear in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
Papa Bear's appearance in the Shrek 2 video game is based on that of Smokey Bear.
- His line "Only you can put out these fires" is a direct line from Smokey.
