Persephone is a character who briefly appeared in the "Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales" DVD game. She is the goddess of fertility in Greek mythology, the queen of the Underworld and wife of Hades.

In one of the storybook animations, she is plucking flowers in the Vale of Nysa until being disrupted by Hades, who emerges from the ground. He tries to pull her into the Underworld, but she tries to resist, bashing his head with the flower petals flying all over.
Various trivia questions reference the purpose of the original mythos, which was to explain the changes of the seasons. In particular, her consumption of pomegranate seeds while in the Underworld required her to spend one-third of the year with Hades. It is also mentioned that her mother, Demeter, threatened to cause a worldwide famine if she didn't get to see her for at least a portion of the year.
She is said to have done a good job with looking after the Underworld with her husband. Thanks to her, it is especially "nice and shadowy." However, the months she spends in the Underworld causes the plants on earth to die in cold climates. This was also due to Demeter's sadness from missing her daughter.
She was also involved in a love triangle with Adonis and Aphrodite, with her refusing to give up her love of the god while he was living in the Underworld.
