Pirates are criminals seen throughout the Shrek franchise. Most of the prominent ones work for Captain Hook, and are fitted with whisks or spoons and frequent The Poison Apple.

Appearances[]

Shrek 2[]

A selection of pirates can be spotted in the background when Harold is walking into the Poison Apple. Many of them have pirate hats and bandanas, with a few wearing striped shirts. They don't do much beyond talking to one another and reacting Harold mentioning the word, "ogre."

Shrek the Third[]

The pirates play a much larger role in this installment, helping Prince Charming take over the kingdom of Far Far Away. They are also more closely associated with Captain Hook, and aid him in an attempt to kill Arthur and kidnap Shrek. The pirates then return to the kingdom and help Charming's play as the orchestra and chorus. In the end, the pirates along with the other villains reform after hearing Arthur's speech.

The Trident[]

Long ago, pirates had stolen the trident of Poseidon. Wanting to save Del Mar from a terrible drought, Puss in Boots sets off to steal the trident from the pirates. Led by the Pirate Captain, they consist of members of the Baker's Dozen, some evil musketeers, and one of the serpent sisters. Having caught Puss, they attempt to shoot him out of a cannon. They are soon wiped out by a tidal wave summoned by the trident in the hands of Kitty Softpaws.

Trivia[]

  • A removed visual gag in Shrek the Third featured a pirate cooking a slab of meat on a grill. He also had a meat fork for an arm.
  • Despite being based on the same group of pirates featured in Peter Pan, Mr. Smee is nowhere to be found, nor are there any pirates that resemble him. He doesn't get mentioned either.
