Rip Van Winkle - Shrek DVD Game HQ

Rip Van Winkle as he appears in "Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales"

Rip Van Winkle is a character who briefly appeared in the "Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales" DVD game. He is from the fairytale of the same name by Washington Irving.

Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales[]

In one of the storybook animations, Rip Van Winkle is sleeping and snoring on a tree. His beard continues to grow in his slumber, and it gets so tangled that it causes him to dangle upside down. He hardly notices and continues to sleep.

He is mentioned in a trivia question to have slept through the entire Revolutionary War in the United States. This lasted for twenty years, and he returned to find only his daughter still alive in this timeline.

In the "Twisted Twirl" game, one of King Harold's transformations is that of Rip Van Winkle. He would make jokes relating to slumber, such as waking up to an alarm clock and going right back to sleep. Whichever line he has dictates whether the player will move up, stay where they are, or move back.

Trivia[]

  • He has a gravestone that can be spotted in Shrek 4-D. His epitaph reads, "R.I.P. Van Winkle."
  • Leaked concept art for the Donkey spin-off film displayed Rip Van Winkle sleeping under his tree.
