The Shrek 5 Cast Announcement Teaser is a proof-of-concept trailer released on February 27, 2025. It was directed by Brad Ableson, the film's co-director, and intended to reveal the core cast while displaying an updated art direction.

The teaser opens with Shrek and Donkey looking at the Magic Mirror. Donkey asks "Who's the fairest of them all?" with the mirror responding "Why Shrek of course!" Shrek proceeds to scroll through images and videos showing featuring him in peculiar internet memes. After seeing a photoshopped image of Shrek with a ripped body, he and Donkey scream in horror, followed by a disgusted Felicia. Fiona then walks in saying "Ooo, mama like!" which embarrasses Felicia and further embarrasses Shrek. He promptly asks "Who's making this stuff?" before Pinocchio rushes up exclaiming "Not me!!" which causes his nose to grow. Everyone look at him with discomfort, with Donkey saying "Whoa!" The film's logo, a giant '5' with ogre ears, is quickly shown followed by the main four cast members of the movie. It ends with the original Christmas 2026 release date.
Controversy
Despite enthusiasm from the crew, the teaser received immediate backlash from fans. Among the criticisms was the acknowledgement of the Shrek meme culture- which many felt was a failed attempt to connect with modern viewers. Perhaps the most intense feedback came from the new art style and animation. It was heavily criticized for appearing too cartoonish and cutesy- akin to the styles seen in many modern computer-animated projects. While some fans were forgiving due to the advancement of computer technology, others felt that the change in art direction was unnecessary and destroyed the visual identity of the franchise. Many outlets and media onlookers likened the negativity to the original Sonic the Hedgehog film's 2018 trailer, with fans even desiring Shrek 5 to receive the same treatment.
Almost six months after the trailer's release, Shrek 5 was pushed back from its Christmas 2026 release to one in summer 2027. Fans are concluding that the teaser's negative reception is the sole reason (citing the Sonic movie's delay), although nothing has been confirmed. It was believed by media outlets that the delay was due to the overcrowded market of family and event films in late 2026.
