Sleepy Hollow is a scrapped location from the Halloween special, Scared Shrekless. It was going to be the main setting for a story involving the Headless Horseman. Only concept art proves the existence of this location and its presence in the special.

The village would've featured its famous cemetery, as well as a fun-fair- which was the primary location of the planned story. While it was not in the final cut, storyboards by Ryan Savas show that Shrek would go to the fair with the Horseman. Everything would be well until a girl at a kissing booth refused to kiss the Horseman due to him not having a head. After the rejection, he would go on a murderous rampage wielding his sword and destroying the fair. Shrek attempted to calm him down, only to get attacked. The two would then presumably fight in the cemetery, where the Headless Horseman would hopefully relax. While it was well into development, the story didn't make it to the final product.

Trivia[]

  • The fun-fair concept art resembles that of a Renaissance Festival, which is indeed held annually at the real-life Sleepy Hollow.
  • The cemetery designs appear to take inspiration from the Sleepy Hollow cemetery-- where the author of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," Washington Irving, was buried.
