Shronk

Shrek as he appears in the first Technical Goofs.

Technical Goofs was a series of short extras that were included in the special features of the Shrek DVD releases. These displayed work in progress scenes which had creepy and/or funny visuals created by programming errors. Some of the videos however showcase technical exercises that appeared funny enough to be included. They were included in all of the Shrek DVD releases, except for the Shrek Forever After DVD release.

Notable Goofs/Tech Showcases[]

Shrek[]

  • Misshaped Face Shrek
  • Fuzzy Donkey - Due to a programming mistake by one of the rookie animators, specific shots of Donkey featured him with extremely fuzzy fur comparable to a Chia Pet.
  • Muscle and Bone Frame Test - A technical showcase of Lord Farquaad with just his muscles and skeleton. Only his head had flesh.
  • Face Explode Princess
  • Missing Face (Fiona)
  • InvisiShrek

Shrek 2[]

Opening text for this set of goofs reads, "Sometimes things in the animation process don't go exactly as planned..."

  • Long Arm Shrek
  • Long Arm Fiona
  • Crazy Hair Queen
  • Invisible Godmother
  • Fuzzy Puss in Boots
  • Loose Mouth Donkey - This scene was not made for the actual movie, but was part of a Burger King ad promoting the discontinued Cherry Limeade Icee.
  • Hair Test - A technical showcase of the then-new hair renders pioneered for the film.
  • Sparkle Shrek

Shrek the Third[]

For the final technical goofs, the video was titled "Big Green Goofs," and features intercut reactions from the film's characters. Also unlike the previous two, there are no names given to the specific shots. However, there are notable variations of scenes that didn't make it to the final cut of the film.

  • Snow White summoning the forest critter with her voice and appearing visibly annoyed. She responds by saying "Uh, guys. You're really starting to bug me..."
  • An alternate version of Puss in Boots talking to Shrek about his plan for a relaxing getaway trip. Instead of standing near the rear of the ship, Shrek is walking with Puss on his shoulder.
  • A shot of Donkey seeing the rocky shore of the island the crew crash into and yelling "Shrek!!"
  • A pirate cooking a sirloin steak on a grill.

Trivia[]

  • The first Shrek technical goofs have Mike Myers' early voice for Shrek, which can be implied that most of these work in progress scenes were done before Mike Myers re-dubbed the voice.
    • This was more than confirmed as a new budget was secured to reanimate most of Shrek's mouth movements.
