"The Hunchback of Notre Dame" title in "Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales"
The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a Gothic novel written by Victor Hugo. The story was depicted through a storybook animation and several trivia games in the "Shrek: Totally Tangled Tales" DVD game.
Basic overview[]
In the darkest parts of Paris, the distraught archdeacon of the Notre Dame cathedral spirals into madness from his obsession with a girl named Esmeralda. All the while his adoptive son, a shunned hunchback, faces intense ridicule from the outside world.
Storybook Animation[]
The bells of Notre Dame are ringing loudly as Quasimodo swings while holding Esmeralda. He swings in and out of frame, only to find that he accidentally dropped her while still hanging on his rope.
Shrek characters based on the novel[]
Mentioned characters in the DVD game[]
- Claude Frollo
- Jehan Frollo
- Sister Gudule
Trivia[]
- While the original book descriptions have Quasimodo as a redhead and Esmeralda having dark hair, the colors are inverted in the DVD game.
- Ironically given the context of the book (where the two were switched at birth), it would make more sense for their hair to appear as they do in the game.
- Gary Trousdale, director of Shrek the Halls, Scared Shrekless, and Thriller Night, co-directed an adaptation of the novel in 1996 for Disney.
- Salma Hayek portrayed Esmeralda in the 1997 adaptation, The Hunchback. She would later portray Kitty Softpaws in the Puss in Boots series.
