The Ugly Duckling is a character in Shrek the Musical. She is based on the titular character from "The Ugly Duckling" by Hans Christian Andersen.
Shrek the Musical[]
She is seen at Shrek's swamp, having been sent by Lord Farquaad. In the song "Story of My Life," she revealed that she was dragged from the pond. Throughout the musical, she is shown to have grown close with the White Rabbit. They are seen holding hands before singing "Freak Flag" with the ensemble. Both are then seen at Shrek and Fiona's wedding going on a date. In an early version, the two are seen playing pat-a-cake with each other.
Trivia[]
- Despite being male in the original story, the duckling is depicted as a female in every production.
- The character was loosely referenced in "Swamp Talk", being named "The Angry Duckling" when Shrek tried to name an angry bird.
