The "Baby" Unicorn horns on display with the crossbow
Unicorn Horns are the natural parts of a unicorn commonly seen in various fantasy illustrations and fairy tales. They come in assorted colors. While seen throughout the Shrek franchise, they are given greater attention in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The horns are prominently used by "Big" Jack Horner as ammo of arrows for his crossbow.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish[]
The unicorn horns are first seen in "Big" Jack Horner's trophy room, where he keeps all his magical items. According to Jack, they are powerful baby unicorn horns (half as heavy, twice as sharp), but are "trinkets" compared to the power of the Wishing Star. When he begins packing his endless bag for his journey to the star, he brings most of his magical belongings, including the unicorn horns and his crossbow. After capturing Perrito at the River of Relaxation, he aimed his crossbow right at his face, threatening to use him as a demonstration to what they would actually do if Puss and Kitty did not hand him back the Map to the Wishing Star. However, this gets ruined when Goldilocks and The Three Bears Crime Family show up and throw two bakers at Jack; the first one to get his attention, and the second after Jack stated that he didn't have the map. The dog escapes after Jack accidently drops him, and a fight between the three parties ensue over the map. While trying to shoot Puss, Jack instead hits three members of the Baker's Dozen by accident because of the sights on the crossbow (first Pete Cobbler, then Betsy Crocker and lastly Tommy Lee Scones just as he caught Puss, resulting in Puss to blast away due to Tommy Lee Scones' demise forcing him to let go of his grip). The pointy tip of the unicorn horns when it hits a living being causes them to explode with confetti, leaving only the clothes remain. Despite the gruesome sight, Jack is excited to see the effect when it hit Pete; much to the distress of the Ethical Bug, and continues shooting them even after Goldilocks manages to steal the map with her family, missing every shot.
Trivia[]
- It can be argued that the unicorn horns are the most lethal weapons in the Shrek universe.
- In the second official trailer for The Last Wish, Jack Horner could be seen yielding the crossbow at the fight for the Wishing Star. This shot was not used in the final film, and he didn't use the weaponry during the battle.
