Waffles are foods often eaten during breakfast time. They are Donkey's all-time favorite food, and a major piece of Shrek iconography.

One of the franchise's most iconic lines is, "And in the morning, I'm making waffles!" This was spoken by Donkey after getting excited to stay at Shrek's place for the night after rescuing him.
Shrek 4-D[]
In the ending, before heading off into the sunset, Donkey exclaims "let's go home and make some waffles!" as he rides on Dragon back home. Fiona questions the mention of waffles, to which Shrek responds, "It's a long story."
At Universal Studios Hollywood, outside of the theater used to stand a waffle cart where guests could interact with Donkey.
Shrek the Halls[]
In Donkey's Christmas story, a huge 50 ft. Waffle Santa is the final float of the holiday parade. He exclaims "Ho ho ho!" as a chorus of Christmas dolls sing "Waffle Santa." Excited, Donkey walks up the float to lick the syrup from the Waffle Santa. The Santa constantly yells "Donkey!" which further enlightens Donkey, until revealing that it was Shrek telling Donkey to stop licking him.
Shrek Forever After[]
Donkey smells a distant scent after Shrek tells him to track down Fiona. After following the smell, he arrives in the forest to find a fresh batch of syrupy waffles. Without questioning the sight, Donkey tries to eat the waffles despite Shrek's suspicions. He licks a drop of the syrup until the waffles are thrown onto a trees. This triggers a booby trap that causes Donkey to be kicked into a hole (later referred to as the "waffle hole").
Scared Shrekless[]
Near the end of the "Boots Motel" story, Puss in Boots creates a scenario where Donkey terrorized by a giant "donkey-eating waffle." He wanted revenge on Donkey for eating his family of other waffles, and he eats him whole from a plate of butter.
